Jesse James Rides Again…Final Version!

I’m 99.9% sure I have finished this portrait. This is one of those instances in which the artist needs someone standing by with a baseball bat to hit her over the head when she doesn’t know when to stop. This photo may not look much different from the previous post, but nevertheless it does have several more layers on it.

The interesting thing about this portrait is that the lighting was “backwards” on the original photo, i.e., the light was somewhat behind the figure instead of flooding the surface directly. I liked the halo effect of this light, so I decided to paint the picture even though all conventional wisdom said it was “wrong”.  I think it turned out okay, (kind of moody) in spite of the lack of detail in the photograph.
