A while back I mentioned I had entered the “Ex Arte Equinus” competition sponsored by Art Horse Magazine. Didn’t win anything in that one, although if I read their notice right, it looks like works that were accepted into the competition will be published in a special book they’re creating even if those paintings didn’t win top prizes in their entry category. More to come on this one.
Meanwhile, I entered three watercolors and three oil paintings in another “to be published” competition–the Susquehanna International Art Competition whose theme this year is “River Art”. There were 438 entries from 171 artists in the U.S. and seven foreign countries. My unassuming little painting featured above won in the watercolor category. There will be an actual (as opposed to virtual) exhibition at the West Shore Gallery in Wormleysburg PA–that’s right across the river (!) from Harrisburg. The top ten entries in each of the 7 media categories will be published in the book “River Art” in January. So far they have only listed the category winners, so I don’t know if any of my other entries will also be published. More to come on this one, too. Merry Christmas!
Congratulations! I love your painting – it has some of my favorite colors in it.

Thank you, Joy–I liked that little watercolor so much that I used it as a study for a much larger oil painting, and managed to be faithful to the colors in oil too. If you’re curious to see how the oil turned out, you can find it on my website, http://www.allifarkas.com. It’s titled “Topaz Winter”.
