Time for that landscape I promised…when???

First day's work for the oil version

It looks like I was rambling on about doing this painting sometime last June! My, how time flies when you’re having fun! So today I finally started it, and met with a roadblock right off the bat. I somehow managed to misplace the original photos somewhere along the way. I remember seeing them sitting on the back corner of my studio table, and I do not remember moving them anywhere else. I think they call this Alzheimer’s…

So I started using the watercolor as the only reference. But it’s so delightfully impressionistic that I can’t use it for detail. Even if I don’t paint the detail, I still need to see it. I can’t explain why, but it does make a difference.

So the hunt began for the (antique!) negatives. Found them in the second drawer I looked. Amazing. Tomorrow I will have to look silly and completely behind the times as I stand in line at the photo desk to get them printed…
