Saturday night was an art experience, as far as I can tell, quite unlike any other. Title of the project: “Prep”. Food as medium, medium (as always) the message. Created by the JiMaoC4 collective, coordinated by Lion vs. Gorilla, and presented at the Co-Prosperity Sphere in Chicago. Full disclosure: JiMao (whose true identity shall remain hidden within the collective) is my guy. Having said that, let’s move on to what really rocked on Saturday night. A chef on a platform working over a special light table consisting of edge-lit glass with a video camera underneath it pointed at the glass. An assortment of art materials–beets, oranges, fennel, onions–chopped, arranged, swept away and incorporated into a delicious beet salad available to any and all attendees. The creative process projected onto a wall-sized articulated screen, all accompanied by two bands and a deejay. Words don’t do it justice, so here are a few of the photos I took–
I really looks like quite a project. And so beautiful!

It was indeed quite a project, with research and experimentation beginning over two years ago. This is just the start, and I can’t predict where it will go, but since the intent is to interject art into the community it could reappear in various venues and in different forms.
