Running a bit late

It was my intention to have this one finished by December 1. I got all the pesky leaves done but the background was only a suggestion and as such it needs a lot of adjustment. The bright areas on the edges are bad lighting. They will disappear 😉

So here’s what we’ve got, and if I go on a painting tear the rest of this evening I may have more to show tomorrow.

Sky Pads 31. Yes, it’s out of order. 30 will appear sometime this month.

A beautiful beginning! BTW, I like those bright edges!

Coming along very nice. I have this plant in one of my fish pots. Interesting composition, and combining illusionist 3D (shadows, folded leaves, and stems under water), and 2D visual arrangement. It works abstractly, and nationalistically. And because I have this plant, I can appreciate all the different stages of leaf growth and decay. Great stuff!

I think one of the most obvious things that separate me from most artists who enjoy painting water lilies is that I generally don’t portray the perfect leaf. Boring. I like bent/broken stems, “holey” leaves, discolored leaves, strong shadow patterns, stuff under water or half obscured by cloud reflections. Much more interesting that way. Thanks for your observations, as always!

It coming along very nicely indeed. I am absolutely useless at painting under the pressure of time . Those tv shows where the painters have 2 hours to paint a landscape or portrait are my idea of hell!

I too like to work with leaves. I use those integrating them in Chinese style paintings. Smaller leaves and blossoms I use for bookmarks.
