For not the first time, but maybe the last time, I have started a "home business". The difference with this one is that it is one I really enjoy. I've drawn and painted horses since I was (at least) five years old--that's the earliest one that my mother saved.By the time I entered my teens, Mother had grown a bit tired of the subject and urged me to do something else with my artwork besides horses. I followed her advice and never looked back until ten years ago when it occurred to me that people might actually pay for horse portraits. I have had many exhibits of my landscapes, and sold a good number of them--but not enough to provide any kind of steady income.
I'm hoping that if I work hard and market this business well I will be able to delight my customers, make some money, and have a lot of fun doing it.

My very own billboard…
This billboard appeared in South Bend, Indiana, a few days ago. I was gobsmacked to be chosen from among 50 artists to be provided a space on one of a limited number of billboards promoting this upcoming indoor art fair. … Continue reading
Busy busy busy…
Once again I had to set aside my painting for a bit in order to get a few other things accomplished. Actually it was more like one big all-consuming project with a deadline. Cass Area Artists, of which I am … Continue reading
Sky Pads 36–let’s dream a bit
It won’t stay this way long. The colors didn’t photograph well, and I have too much else to do right at this moment to futz with it. Let’s just say that it won’t always look this yellow. The large yellow … Continue reading
The plea is working…and so is Sky Pads 35
My last post’s plea for donations to the 501(c)3 organization that I helped found and of which I am treasurer has been heard and acted upon. Not necessarily by a coterie of readers of my blog, but enough to get … Continue reading
An update and…a plea (first, the plea)
If you read my last post, most of the first part of this one will be familiar. But in case I have some new readers I will summarize just for their benefit😂. I’m going to assume that most of my … Continue reading
No, I have not left the planet
I just noticed my last post was sometime in March. I do look at and comment on bloggers posts I follow, but there hasn’t been much going on in my studio except waiting and a little bit of painting. Somehow … Continue reading
7-day backup!
Seven days ignoring all WordPress posts. That will put you way behind when you finally get enough of a breather to try to catch up on your reading. And I can’t even remember what all I’ve done since my last … Continue reading
Half a weekend in (or mostly near) a white tent
I suppose not just the Midwest, but most of the northern hemisphere, has been plagued with a heat wave of some sort since late spring. It was our turn here in Michigan this past Saturday, just in time for the … Continue reading
Weekend in an antique gas station
If you’ve been following me for a while, you may remember this place–it was originally a gas station, then became a victim of neglect, then was resurrected as a nostalgic tribute to the 50’s gas station. It has now become … Continue reading
A mixed bag
I’m always gobsmacked when someone is totally taken by one of my paintings, and it just happened with this watercolor. I made a retirement gift of this painting to a woman who not only admired it, but was responsible for … Continue reading
