For not the first time, but maybe the last time, I have started a "home business". The difference with this one is that it is one I really enjoy. I've drawn and painted horses since I was (at least) five years old--that's the earliest one that my mother saved.
By the time I entered my teens, Mother had grown a bit tired of the subject and urged me to do something else with my artwork besides horses. I followed her advice and never looked back until ten years ago when it occurred to me that people might actually pay for horse portraits. I have had many exhibits of my landscapes, and sold a good number of them--but not enough to provide any kind of steady income.
I'm hoping that if I work hard and market this business well I will be able to delight my customers, make some money, and have a lot of fun doing it.

Saga of a dog portrait
Back in early December one of my barn friends had to put down her now aged, beloved dog, Izzy. She was absolutely crushed, and our barn manager asked me to do a portrait as a surprise for her to give … Continue reading
Secret wait is over–yes, it was a Christmas present
I had to be careful not to get the pink petunias into the disguised version as that might have given it away a bit. Anyhow, the recipient of this Christmas gift was super pleased to receive it as it is … Continue reading
The secret commission puzzle–anybody see a dog in there?

I’ve got a secret…again
Well yes, it’s another secret commission but thankfully not a Christmas present (or it could be if it gets done by then) so I’m not under an intense amount of pressure. It’s doubtful that the intended recipient would chance upon … Continue reading
A bit of a rush job on this one, but the quality didn’t suffer for it. All I can say is, after all the horses I’ve done I never realized how complicated a dog’s open mouth could be! Undaunted, I … Continue reading
Second (not so little) doggie on the way
Remember Critter? He’s getting a companion–a gift commission from the gal who owns Critter. Here’s the drawing: This is Bennie, who will most likely look a lot better in full color. There’s some camera distortion in the original photo which … Continue reading
Git along little dogie…whoops, I meant doggie
Over the past five years I have been asked time and again whether I paint dogs. I always answer “sure!” but never in those years have I had anybody take me up on it until now. A very nice gal … Continue reading
