For not the first time, but maybe the last time, I have started a "home business". The difference with this one is that it is one I really enjoy. I've drawn and painted horses since I was (at least) five years old--that's the earliest one that my mother saved.By the time I entered my teens, Mother had grown a bit tired of the subject and urged me to do something else with my artwork besides horses. I followed her advice and never looked back until ten years ago when it occurred to me that people might actually pay for horse portraits. I have had many exhibits of my landscapes, and sold a good number of them--but not enough to provide any kind of steady income.
I'm hoping that if I work hard and market this business well I will be able to delight my customers, make some money, and have a lot of fun doing it.

The plea is working…and so is Sky Pads 35
My last post’s plea for donations to the 501(c)3 organization that I helped found and of which I am treasurer has been heard and acted upon. Not necessarily by a coterie of readers of my blog, but enough to get … Continue reading
Crossing my eyes again
Just when I thought I had sworn off harness…a commission! This past Saturday and Sunday Reins of Life held its second benefit dressage show of the season and unlike last year, I sat in my booth instead of on a … Continue reading
Reins of Life rolls around again, and so does rain
It dawned gray and wet on a Midwest Saturday. I think this was my fourth? appearance at Reins of Life in South Bend, Indiana. I’ve lost track. But they all have one thing in common: it would not be a … Continue reading
A whole bunch of photos of Charm
Last Saturday I once again traded my vendor’s hat for a rider’s helmet. This time at the fall Reins of Life benefit dressage show in Michigan City, Indiana. Charm and I did just fine, even though I had a little … Continue reading
2 weeks, 2 shows, 5 paintings, 1 thunderstorm
The last two weekends were horse show weekends for me, two days at Reins of Life in South Bend, IN and three days at the Fox River Valley Pony Club horse trials in Barrington Hills, IL. First off, the most … Continue reading
Playing catch-up
Several things are in the works but somehow I have become major sidetracked from reporting on them. So, here goes… This painting which I completed a few months ago will now appear on a promotional poster for Reins of Life … Continue reading
Third year at Reins of Life
This year’s weekend fall benefit dressage show was held at the Reins of Life facility in Michigan City, Indiana. I have posted about my previous appearances at their facility in South Bend, Indiana but had never been to Michigan City. … Continue reading
Revelation
For the first time ever I experimented with painting while tending my booth. I have always done the ink drawings but thought painting would be too messy and space-consuming. I discovered, however, that I can take my tiny (about the … Continue reading
Repeat performance at Reins of Life
This is the second year I’ve had my portrait booth at Reins of Life, a therapeutic riding facility with two locations in Indiana. This dressage show is an annual benefit affair, and something I can totally support especially since I … Continue reading
Next up, Billy and his harem
Our two friends Gunny and Rosie are finally complete. I don’t know what their actual accommodations are (especially in winter!) but they both look quite happy here in an autumn-setting pasture. Will see if I can get the painting delivered … Continue reading
