For not the first time, but maybe the last time, I have started a "home business". The difference with this one is that it is one I really enjoy. I've drawn and painted horses since I was (at least) five years old--that's the earliest one that my mother saved.By the time I entered my teens, Mother had grown a bit tired of the subject and urged me to do something else with my artwork besides horses. I followed her advice and never looked back until ten years ago when it occurred to me that people might actually pay for horse portraits. I have had many exhibits of my landscapes, and sold a good number of them--but not enough to provide any kind of steady income.
I'm hoping that if I work hard and market this business well I will be able to delight my customers, make some money, and have a lot of fun doing it.

My very own billboard…
This billboard appeared in South Bend, Indiana, a few days ago. I was gobsmacked to be chosen from among 50 artists to be provided a space on one of a limited number of billboards promoting this upcoming indoor art fair. … Continue reading
I have not been missing in action
It only seems like I have disappeared, but now that I have a painting, some sales, and an art fair out of the way, I can actually sit down a while and write something. I finished Sky Pads 36, but … Continue reading
Climbing the hill
This one is testing my confidence a bit. As we make our way together towards the upper right hand corner I keep wondering why the paint is not applying itself as smoothly as it usually does (yeah, show me paint … Continue reading
26 it is
I got here somehow but couldn’t post sooner because I had no good photo light on the day I finished and then I had to take a few days break for a bit of oral surgery. All good now! The … Continue reading
Another quick dip
The last pass will be pretty quick. There are only a few dark areas that I want to emphasize even more. They will be in purple instead of the mars red I’ve been using so far. Then we wait. The … Continue reading
7-day backup!
Seven days ignoring all WordPress posts. That will put you way behind when you finally get enough of a breather to try to catch up on your reading. And I can’t even remember what all I’ve done since my last … Continue reading
Jumping ahead (no, not the horsey kind)
The title of this post just came to me out of nowhere, but I had to laugh because it reminded me of what my biggest fault was when I used to jump horses–it was called “jumping ahead” and it meant … Continue reading
Even better than déjà vu
Déjà vu is defined as a “feeling” of having experienced something before–this last weekend was even better. It was real. Wellfield Botanic Gardens in Elkhart, Indiana put on a superb version of their always superb Taste of the Gardens event … Continue reading
A few hours later–#23
It’s amazing how quickly I can arrive at a destination once I have a semblance of an idea of where I’m going! To see two previous versions of this painting click on the ← above the title of this post. … Continue reading
Half a weekend in (or mostly near) a white tent
I suppose not just the Midwest, but most of the northern hemisphere, has been plagued with a heat wave of some sort since late spring. It was our turn here in Michigan this past Saturday, just in time for the … Continue reading
