For not the first time, but maybe the last time, I have started a "home business". The difference with this one is that it is one I really enjoy. I've drawn and painted horses since I was (at least) five years old--that's the earliest one that my mother saved.By the time I entered my teens, Mother had grown a bit tired of the subject and urged me to do something else with my artwork besides horses. I followed her advice and never looked back until ten years ago when it occurred to me that people might actually pay for horse portraits. I have had many exhibits of my landscapes, and sold a good number of them--but not enough to provide any kind of steady income.
I'm hoping that if I work hard and market this business well I will be able to delight my customers, make some money, and have a lot of fun doing it.

“Attitude” is about to travel–to the 29th annual “Culture and Agriculture” show at the New Visions Gallery in Marshfield, Wisconsin. This is my third appearance at this annual show and the first appearance for one of my horse paintings. I … Continue reading
A new puzzle–or, let’s play mix and match
For your consideration: four photos, two of each horse, to be somehow combined into a new commissioned painting showing the two horses interacting together. Faithful followers know this is not the first time I have been presented with this situation–but … Continue reading

Some very affordable horses in harness
I got the latest set of note cards from the printer a couple of days ago and just finished sorting them into packets and tying a nice satin ribbon around each one. They will be part of my booth display … Continue reading
Back to Mackinac
Here’s another little Aquabord™ watercolor I started Saturday while making my third appearance at the annual West Michigan Winter Horse Fest. Harness overload prevented me from finishing it on the spot, so today I picked up where I left off … Continue reading
Two new paintings on Aquabord™
As usual I was able to paint while I babysat my booth at the Fox River Valley Pony Club horse trials two weekends ago. These two are my efforts from that show. The horse and cart is from a photo … Continue reading
Cutting it close
Another short post, because as the title says, I’m cutting it close! Got one more Aquabord™ to do in the next 6 days. Hope I make it, but I also have a lot of riding to catch up on since … Continue reading
2 more down, ?? to go
As we used to say when I lived in LA, we’ve got the mountains and the sea! And I have a deadline to get a few more of these Aquabord™ paintings done before early November. I would have had a … Continue reading
The ink to Aquabord™ habit
Another transition from monochrome to color. I’m liking this process. It’s kind of like a rehearsal before the real thing. Then, stand by for applause. Speaking of applause, as my technique has improved I’ve been selling a few of … Continue reading
